# Connect ChatGPT

> Use the Deep Recall plugin in desktop Work or connect a custom MCP server on the web.

Connect ChatGPT to the same brain you use with your other assistants.

Use an approved Deep Recall account. Plugin uploads and custom MCP connections depend on your ChatGPT plan and workspace settings.

* Desktop Work

  ## Upload the plugin

  [Download the ChatGPT plugin](https://getdeeprecall.com/plugins/deep-recall.zip). Open ChatGPT desktop’s **Plugins**, choose the upload option under **Add**, and select the ZIP. Install Deep Recall.

  The downloaded bundle uses **Work** in the desktop app. Start there when testing this setup.

  ## Authorize the connection

  Open the installed plugin’s connector, choose **Connect**, sign in to Deep Recall, and review its permissions. A plugin being installed is not evidence that memory access is authorized.

* Web connection

  ## Add a custom MCP server

  In ChatGPT, open **Plugins → Add → Add custom MCP server**, when available. Name it **Deep Recall** and use:

  ```

  Choose **OAuth** for authentication, review ChatGPT’s warning, and create the plugin. Install it, sign in to Deep Recall when prompted, and approve the access you want to grant.

  Deep Recall supports automatic registration. Leave optional Client ID and Client Secret fields empty. Do not paste your Deep Recall browser token or password into a custom header.

## Enable it and test

Start a new conversation in the appropriate Chat or Work surface. Type **@**, select **Deep Recall**, and try:

Use Deep Recall to remember that I prefer quiet places for dinner.
When the save is available, recall the preference and show its source.
```

Look for the tool result. A message that merely says “connected” does not verify access. Check the same memory from a new conversation or in [the Deep Recall app](https://getdeeprecall.com/app).

## Make memory use a habit

Copy the instruction from [Connect agents](https://getdeeprecall.com/app/connect) into **Settings → Personalization → Custom Instructions**, alongside your existing instructions. Ask explicitly for important saves or recalls; automatic use is best effort.
